The Ann Arbor T-shirt Company grew from a dorm room project between two friends at the University of Michigan. The company takes pride in designing, printing, and embroidering the majority of their products completely in their Ann Arbor, Michigan factory.

What makes their products unique? The workers receive fair wages, healthcare, 401k matches, and meals. The machines, inks, and most inputs are U.S. sourced, and the shirts are mostly made of U.S. cotton. Producing in-house keeps the quality up and the prices low.

The tagless tag is printed on the fabric inside the collar, so you can't feel it. The shirts have a unisex modern fit - slightly tapered to be a little less boxy than the old style of mass-market t-shirts. They're pre-shrunk, but like any high-cotton product, they will still shrink slightly in the wash. The model photos show the actual shirt on their salesperson, Rich, who is 6' 2", 200 lbs, and wearing a large.

These shirts are made of a ringspun, 30/1 fine jersey knit on 90% USA-grown cotton (10% polyester for the two-tone effect). They're soft and smooth with a high thread-count, tight knit made from fuzzy plants grown by American farmers. They're mid-weight shirts - a bit lighter than your mass-market, thick gym class t-shirts, but substantial and not see-through.

The company uses QCM screen printing inks, manufactured in Pineville, North Carolina. These are high-quality inks - vibrant and durable, and highly crack resistant. Some of the designs are intentionally faded or cracked, but the inks always "do what they are told" by the printers. They use top-of-the-line printing presses and ovens (to cure inks) made by M&R in Illinois.

QCM has been one of the most forward-thinking ink manufacturers in the industry, going phthalate-free over ten years ago - way ahead of the curve. They're also CFC-free and rated as carcinogen-free by the state of California.
